Use Your 22s!
We now allow new or young competitors to use 22 rimfire caliber firearms. A few rules:
Rifles – hammered, lever or pump action, no semiautomatic
Pistols – hammered single action revolvers
Sights – no optic fiber, no electronic, see the SASS Shooters Handbook for other guidelines
Ammunition – non-plated, round nose all lead bullets (no hollow points), standard velocity (no subsonic, high-velocity, hyper or magnum rounds). This allows for safety as well as enough sound impact to actuate the timers.
All SASS rules will apply – please contact a match director listed below with any questions. Please note this only applies to matches at our range and not other SASS affiliated matches.
CCKC Range Rules
Match Safety Rules
Bristol Plains Pistoleros follow CCKC as well as SASS rules. CCKC safety tips can be found here, and CCKC safety and range rules can be found here. We encourage you to download and become familiar with the latest SASS Shooters Handbook for all information regarding the sport.
GENERAL RULES
- CCKC IS A COLD RANGE. All Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) rules apply. All Firearms will remain UNLOADED except while you are under the direct observation of a Range Officer (RO).
- Ammunition requirements: lead bullets only (polymer coatings are okay), no heavier than 7 1/2# lead shot allowed.
- Dry firing at any time is NOT PERMITTED.
- All loading and unloading will only be conducted at the loading and unloading tables.
- Long guns must have their actions open immediately at the conclusion of each shooting sequence and while carried on the range. When moving long guns on the range, the muzzle must be pointing UPWARD and the end of the muzzle must be above your head unless enclosed in a case.
- Hand guns must be holstered except when on the firing line, at the loading and unloading tables, in a safety area or at the shooter’s vehicle. Hand guns must be re-holstered or safely secured in your gun cart at the conclusion of the gun’s immediate use unless the stage directions specify otherwise.
- No shooter will have their finger on the trigger of any firearm until it is is pointed safely down range.
- ALL competitors and spectators MUST wear eye protection (with wrap-around or side shields) and hearing protection.
- Minors 12 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult and under their direct supervision at all times.
- If you need to use the portable toilets or go to your vehicle during a match, secure your pistols in your gun cart or place them on the unloading table with the action (loading gate) open.
- Inter-personal conflicts and the use of drugs or alcohol will not be tolerated on this range.
SAFETY RULES — STAGE DISQUALIFICATIONS (Stage DQs)
- Moving is limited with a COCKED & LOADED firearm (basketball “traveling” rules apply). When moving to a shooting position with the shotgun you are not allowed to insert any live shells into a chamber or on the carrier before one foot is planted at the next shooting position (“Plant and Poke“ rule).
- Dropping an UNLOADED firearm.
- Breaking the 170 degree arc or sweeping with an UNLOADED firearm. If using a cross draw holster, do the cross draw dance (turn hip down range to avoid breaking the 170 degree plain).
SAFETY RULES — MATCH DISQUALIFICATIONS (Match DQs)
- Loaded firearms are NOT PERMITTED to leave the loading table or firing line at any time. When firearms are loaded at the loading table they will remain on the table until you are called to the firing line.
- Dropping a LOADED firearm. The shooter will NOT pick up the dropped firearm. A Range Officer will recover the firearm, unload it, examine it, clear it and return it to the shooter.
- Breaking a 170 degree arc relative to the firing line with the muzzle of a LOADED firearm.
- Sweeping anyone AT ANY TIME with the muzzle of a LOADED firearm. If using a cross draw holster, do the cross draw dance (turn hip down range to avoid breaking the 170 degree plain).

Please be aware though, that anything which causes me, Snidely Whiplash, to have a miss or a procedural, must be regarded as a complete, utter, world-class, epic FAILURE!
